Current research directions of the Research Center for Brain-inspired Intelligence include but are not limited to:

  • Multi-scale Brain Simulation.
  • Cognitive Brain Modeling and Neural Computation.
  • Micro-level Brain Reconstruction.
  • Brain-inspired Computing.
  • Brain Knowledge Bases.
  • Cognitive and Neural Robotics.

Linked Brain Data (LBD) is an effort for extracting, integrating, linking and analyzing multi-modal Brain and Neuroscience data and knowledge from multiple scales and multiple data sources (mainly from Web-accessible resources). It provides services for Brain and neuroscience knowledge extraction, structured

data representation, integration, visualization, analysis, semantic search and reasoning. LBD is proud to present the association graph on various cognitive functions, brain diseases and their relationships to brain building blocks at multiple scales. In addition, LBD not only contains textual knowledge about the brain, but also provide visualized structures of brain building blocks at multiple scales.

CASIA Brain Simulation System is an effort on simulating the cognitive brain at multiple scales (from ions, neurons, neural micro-circuits and meso-circuits, all the way to brain regions, macro circuits and cognitive behaviors). The activities of the brain are acquired and synthesized from various sources at multiple scales, and simulation is strictly based on the observed data and principles. The long term goal of CASIA Brain Simulation effort is to decode the mechanisms and principles of human intelligence and develop Brain-inspired intelligent systems.

BrainBo is a series of cognitive robotics with a CASIA brain (a multi-scale brain simulator developed at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences). The CASIA brain is the core of BrainBo for coordinating its various cognitive behaviors, including but not limited to multi-modal sensation and perception (vision, audition, touch, etc.), language, prediction, reasoning, decision making, etc. Whenever a Brainbo is performing a cognitive task, multiple regions of the CASIA brain in Brainbo are coordinating with each other to fulfill the task.

What's New!

  • BrainBo is realeased. It is a series of Cognitive robotics with a CASIA Brain. The first release is based on a NAO robot. The video shows the cognitive ability of BrainBo on inductive reasoning, object recognition and interpretation.
  • Linked Brain Data : Linked Brain Data (LBD) is an effort for extracting and linking Brain and Neuroscience data and knowledge from multiple scale and multiple data sources together. The LBD platform provides services for neuroscience knowledge extraction, structured neuron data representation, neuron data integration, visualization, analysis, semantic search (through SPARQL queries) and reasoning over the integrated Neuron data.
