BrainBo is a series of cognitive robotics with a CASIA brain (a multi-scale brain simulator developed at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences). The CASIA brain is the core of BrainBo for coordinating its various cognitive behaviors, including but not limited to multi-modal sensation and perception (vision, audition, touch, etc.), language, prediction, reasoning, decision making, etc. Whenever a Brainbo is performing a cognitive task, multiple regions of the CASIA brain in Brainbo are coordinating with each other to fulfill the task.

  • A real Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with CASIA Brain is released. It can automatically learn how to aviod obstacles by using a brain-inspired decision making model [2016.7.18]
  • Simulated version of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with CASIA Brain can automatically learn to aviod static and moving obstacles. [2015.7.6]
  • BrainBo can interact with human and learn basic behaviors through reinforcement learning [2015.1.5].
  • BrainBo can recognize various objects from interactions with the environment [2014.11.10].
  • BrainBo can perform inductive reasoning task with his/her CASIA brain [2014. 10.21].
  • BrainBo got its first version of the CASIA brain, and the brain regions are based on Broadmann areas [2014.10.10].

The humanoid robot used in BrainBo is currently based on NAO robot developed by Aldebaran Corporation. The work on BrainBo focus on developing a brain-inspired cognitive computation model and apply them to different robotics (humanoid robots, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), etc.) to perform various cognitive behaviors.
